my issues with the indie dev scene
I feel like an issue with many artists in the indie dev scene that are wannabe ceos is an issue of authenticity and honesty and self reflection and accountability
if they were to say anything that meant anything it would necessarily be "controversial" and "taking sides" and "alienating potential markets"
when in reality we should be looking to do this:
I think they would be happier with themselves and the creative world would be better to see more true and genuine heartfelt art that is made for your dick and your six closest friends who will send you a dozen fire emojis and an exploding gif
bc the more you try to appeal to Everyone the fewer people you're really Moving with your work bc it doesn't and Can't take any kind of stance without alienating someone (and I do think Some People ie transphobic white supremacists Should be alienated)
these ppl end up like, sounding like freaks talking about "projected profit margins" and "commercial viability"
the visual novel side of things like, I joined the sealed with a kiss jam server briefly but it was Insane like corporate replication how can we manufacture sincerity
i do want devs to make money. but I want to see less actually capitalism is a benefit thought rot
and if you only just appealed to capitalism More then you'll "succeed" (financially) (LIES)
it's honestly rly deeply frightening to see how low ppl will go towards "manufacturing sincerity" instead of, yk, learning how to BE sincere with themselves, their art, and their stories
and also like no... frankly I don't think no matter how hard u swing ur just not going to make riches from?? anything genuine and personal and worth saying and reflecting bc the only things worth saying are inherently alienating to Mr. Moneybag Bigotry
and yes I DO think in your personal work you Should seek to make transphobes and racists uncomfortable and unwelcome
the most powerful form of artistic resistance is to persist in creating intimate and heartfelt stories born from the unique waters of your human experience and all its intricacies
and? get weird with it
DON'T make smth "for everyone"
make it for yourself, ur dick, and ur six friends
